As children, Matt and his brother spent countless holidays in a tent alongside their grandparents’ static caravan. No electricity. No privacy. No comfort.
As a father, he vowed not to inflict such a dismal experience on his four children. He spotted endless motorhomes on the motorway and recognised the freedom and comfort they offered.
Phoebe was his first love. She was small. She was accommodating. She was an RV – one that was too big for narrow Cornish lanes, but a joy for a family of six looking for quick getaways.
He caught the motorhome bug. So much so that he went into partnership with two friends and launched a motorhome and campervan sales company.
During the 1990s he toured as a sound engineer and technician for live acts such as U2. Later, he worked as an events manager. He made arrangements for anyone, from then unknown comedians such as Michael McIntyre and Rhod Gilbert to world leaders.
He learnt to work with tight budgets and restrictions – something that came in handy when he entered the motorhome industry. Together, his team struck deals with premier manufacturers and won several awards.
The Motorhome Holiday Company
He expanded the company to include motorhome hire and he found his niche. While at a crossroads, he decided to focus on this area – setting up The Motorhome Holiday Company.
Today, he has a loyal and returning clientele. He supplies motorhomes for private hire, corporate events and even TV crews. He loves helping families and organisations create memories that last a lifetime.
He has even expanded to provide an online and in-store leisure and motorhome spares shop: That Leisure Shop.
During the standstill of 2020, when foreign travel was halted, he also launched the Staycation Inspiration magazine, a guide book filled with beautiful UK destinations and travel guides to help people continue to make holiday memories.
The Motorhome Matt podcast launch
After repeatedly being asked the same questions and hearing horror stories of sales gone wrong, he decided to launch a regular podcast to answer your questions, allay your fears and give you the relevant information on buying, selling or hiring a motorhome.
